Re: “Irish fear ghost ship may bring Newfoundland rats ashore”

Dear Editor,

This lost ship speaks volumes to our knowledge of atmospheric and oceanic circulation.  We can’t find, even with the help of computer models, where it has drifted under the influence of wind and ocean surface currents?

Seriously, climate modellers depend on this kind of knowledge to understand the effect of the cold deep ocean on atmospheric temperature.  Can they tell us if the ocean might moderate global warming long enough to take humanity safely past the fossil fuel age? I’m listening!

Yours truly,

Duane Pendergast
