Dear Editor,

Gwynne Dyers column today on Iran’s nuclear aspirations demonstrates exceptional maturity and perspective.  (“A nuclear overreaction”, 06/01/15, A6)

Hopefully, President’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and George Bush, as well as US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, are paying attention to him.

It is noteworthy that some claim Iran does not need to develop nuclear energy as she has lots of oil. Interestingly Iran’s intent to build nuclear reactors as a supplement to oil goes back to the 1960’s.

Now, forty years later, many are concerned oil is running out.  Countries – Oh! and provinces too - with major oil resources will be expected to share.  Iran’s long held stance that it is prudently developing nuclear energy capability as an alternate to oil is gaining credence.
