Dear Editor,

Environment Minister Rona Ambrose seems to be having difficulty getting her “Act” together (Draft bill on environment under fire”, 06/10/14, C1). Apparently a draft of the much anticipated new Clean Air Act has been “leaked to environmental groups”.

Canadians have been deceived on climate change issues for a decade now by environmental groups working hand-in-hand with Environment Canada. This latest “leak”, along with an earlier ramshackle closure of two federal government websites on climate change, smacks of sabotage from within the bureaucracy established by the former government.

Canadians appreciate the efforts of the new government to bring perspective to the climate change issue. We can also appreciate that our new environmental leaders simply want to get the new act right before it is made public. However, leaks of this sort provide advance ammunition to vested interests bent on causing confusion. Already confused Canadians are subjected to uncontested spin which supports initiatives of dubious benefit, such as the Kyoto Protocol.

It is understandable that Minister Ambrose has subversive staff within her department. She could cut the rug out from under the rebels, and help deliver the promised government of openness, transparency and accessibility, by immediately making leaked documents available to us all.

Yours truly,

Duane Pendergast
