Letter posted to One Tonne Challenge 04/11/07

Dear One Tonne Challenge,

We undertook initiatives to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions in the spirit of the “One Tonne Challenge” early in 2003. We installed many florescent bulbs, as well as timers and dimmers to reduce electricity use.

We also documented our emissions for 2001, 2002, and 2003 to demonstrate our progress. Sadly our emissions increased over the period. Looking back, we suspect the installation of upgraded lighting and additional electrical appliances such as drinking water cooler/heater units countered our effort, as our electricity usage has steadily increased over the period. We do not have the instrumentation and measurement facilities to pin down precisely the reasons for all of our emission variations.

We established our total household emissions from our utility bills and gasoline consumption records. The calculation methodology and our emissions records are posted at http://www.computare.org/GHG%20Emissions.htm.  You may wish to post a link to this information as others who take up the One Tonne Challenge may wish to measure their progress.

Sincerely,

Duane Pendergast
